Below is a list of the key documents to consider putting into place just in case the day comes when you or someone in your family might need them.
Below is a list of the key documents to consider putting into place just in case the day comes when you or someone in your family might need them.
- A durable power of attorney gives a person you select the authority to make financial and legal decisions for you if you become mentally incapacitated.
- A revocable living trust allows you to name a trustee or successor trustee to control the assets you place in the trust if you are cognitively impaired.
- A Contact Authorization Form authorizes your financial advisor to contact a family member or someone else your trust if problems arise.
- A Will determines how your estate will be distributed after your death.
- A health-care power of attorney gives someone you trust the authority to make medical decisions on your behalf if you cannot.
- A living will spells out your wishes to medical providers and your family. For example, your might decide not to go through the trauma of being resuscitated if your heart stops.
