Today, one in four dying Americans is a Veteran. These men and women often carry experiences from their military service that present unique challenges at the end of life. America's veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve and protect our country. We believe it is never too late to give them a hero's welcome home. Chattahoochee Hospice partners with WE HONOR VETERANS, developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Our participation in the program demonstrates our sound commitment to serving our nation's heroes. Each veteran patient admitted to Chattahoochee Hospice has the opportunity to be honored by our staff and volunteers in a special ceremony designed to fit each patient's situation. Veteran patients receive a framed certificate specific to their branch of service, a patriotic pin and a handmade Americana lap quilt.
According to the NHPCO, 26 million veterans die in this country each year, representing one fourth of all deaths in America. Perhaps more significant is that 85% of veterans do not receive care through the VA heath care system.
Chattahoochee Hospice provides outreach and education to area veterans and health care professionals at veterans' hospitals and clinics, veterans' service organizations and other agencies serving veterans. For more information concerning the Veterans' Administration visit the following website:
